The theme I choose to speak apon is racism. The quote that I took out of the book to help the theme that iI choose that pap said is: "Well that let me out. Thinks I, what is the world a-coming to? It was 'lection day, and I was just about to go and vote, myself , if I warn't drunk to get there; but when they told me there was a state in this country where they'd let that" n" vote, I drawed out." (ch.6,p.30,par.3) In my own words I would say that this means that he does not like black people. This quote means that he was trying to tell his son that he did not vote because they allowed a black man to vote in their country but the real reason he did not vote because they did not allow him to because he was drunk.
My responce to this quote would be that I get very affended by this being a black person. I feel as though the fact that he would tell his son this lie that the only reason that he did not vote was because of a black person was showing that he is weak and that he has no common sence. The fact that he was talking about how he couldn't believe that the black man was allowedto vote showed that he may not have been brought up right and I'm sorrey to say that it iss still people out there like that.
I really don't think that mark twain is a racist. I think that he was trying to use satire but also trying to make it intresting to his readers so that they can say why is he saying this but also the book is getting intresting. Mark twains book is intresting but like I said also offensive to different groups of people at different levels.
